Fed Up–Thing 5

I can see that RSS feeds will put the universe at my fingertips, but I’m already an information junkie (2 daily papers, 3 weekly news publications, 2 monthly health magazines) who is constantly frustrated because I’m interested in just about everything except maybe sports, except for the running and local and inspiring personal stories, which I also inhale.  Oh, yeah, and the Word of the Day fix in my e-mail.

But I’ve peeked into the ed-related sites and they’re organized by topics so I can find things that interest me quickly.  It’s reassuring that I can always go back.

I haven’t begun to absorb even a fraction of what’s out there, but I did come across a quick link in Instructify to a site that allows you to type the title of a book you liked, then suggests titles of similar books you might enjoy.  It’s easy and fun to use; I’d refer my students to it.

Onward and upward!

Hi Suzanne! Your comment on my entry encouraged me more than you know — but how would you know if I hadn’t told you? Thank goodness for blog comments, right? :)

I clicked on your word of the day link (today’s is German!) and also the book title suggestion link — I may share this with a student of mine (rising 8th) who decided (or agreed with his mom) to spend the summer on the North Shore with a grandparent and read a self-made list of books instead of taking summer school — now that’s the spirit of lifelong learning, right?

ps — You have more than earned the silver in your hair, and the “Rock” that you live on — if you meant it also as a pun — is a place I feel lucky to visit. :)
